Alan MHS-450 PMR and GSM PTT Helmet Kit

This Push To Talk (PTT) helmet kit is suited to radios that have the dual plug type connection (3.5mm/2.5mm) and also a 2.5mm socket for a mobile phone. If your phone does not accept a 2.5mm plug, please see our mobile accessories / base adapters section for a suitable adapter.

The MHS-450 motor-bike helmet mic /phone combination is designed for motor-bike radio communication via LPD, amateur, CB or PMR hand held radios with standard 2 plug wiring like most of Albrecht, ALAN and other radios have, and / or parallel to this, for standard GSM phones.

The sets have very flat, soft and convenient headphone speakers and a microphone to be placed in the bike helmet, and a water-proof transmit (PTT) button for mounting on the handlebars or any other suitable place. Mic and phones can be fixed via adhesive pads and velcro fastening, the PTT has an adjustable velcro fastening tape. All parts can be easily removed and attached several times.

The microphone shall be attached at the helmet as near as possible to the mouth, but please take care that no excessive wind noise will be picked up by the microphone.

Installation: Please fix the earphones in the helmet so, that you obtain a not too short distance between phones and ears. For traffic safety reasons, even after fixing the earphones, you must still be able to hear what happens around you.

Please avoid any modification of your helmet during installation. Modifications inside the helmet may effect the ECE approval of
the helmet. If You should use a radio which produces not adjustable beep tones, it may be necessary to increase the distance between
ear and phone position in the helmet accordingly. To protect Your ears, please test the position and the volume adjustment at the radio
and GSM phone carefully beginning with lower levels.

Connect the cable connectors from MIC/Earphone and PTT key set to the multi-pin connectors of the cable set, and the other cables to
the radio and to Your GSM phone. To avoid accidental wrong connections, the cable set uses different connector types, which fit only to
the correct accessory items. The PTT button is only used for radio communication via Your 2-way radio. GSM communication works
without PTT button.

Plug the combined 3.5 / 2.5 mm plug into the earphone and mic sockets of your radio, and the other cable with the 2.5 mm (stereotype)
connector to the GSM phone. The installed 2.5 mm plug is a universal type GSM audio plug, which fits directly into Motorola phones.

If You should not use a GSM phone, please insulate the remaining 2.5 mm plug with insulating tape. Do the same with the 2-way radio cable, if You should use only a GSM phone and no 2-way radio.

There is no need for any battery, the set is powered by the radio / phone.

Operation: Your headphones receive their audio signals parallel from both 2-way radio and GSM phone, so you will listen to audio coming from both sets. To allow handsfree GSM operation, you should set your GSM phone to automatic incoming call switching.

You do not need to press the transmit button- just speak into the microphone and listen. If you press the transmit button, Your voice will be automatically transmitted via the 2-way radio. Release the transmit button to receive
the answer of the distant station. It is not possible (and not allowed!) to forward GSM calls into the 2 way radio network and vice versa.
Important notes:
The motor bike set with the PTT key cannot be used for VOX operation of 2 way radios. Because of technical reasons the MHS 400 set
cannot be used together with 2-way radios which have balanced or ground free audio output sockets. Please ask Your dealer, if You are
not sure. For operation with Albrecht Tectalk, Tectalk FM, Freestyle, GP 1 or Joker You will need the adapter Nr. 29254. For use as
co-driver intercom with ALAN 456, You will need adapter Nr. A 200.
The set fullfills the European standards of the EN 301 489-X series for commercial radios, as well as ETS 300 684 for amateur radio
and has the CE- marking. Because of EMC reasons It may be used only with the standard cable set supplied with the product or cable
length below 3 meters.
